Tandem Diabetes Care has two main insulin pumps on the market right now: the t:slim X2 and the Mobi. Both use the same algorithm of the Control IQ automated insulin delivery system.
Mobi
The Mobi is the smallest automated insulin delivery device available in the United States. It is controlled through an app on your smartphone, which you use to deliver insulin boluses for meals and correction doses. There is also a button on the pump that can be used to deliver a preset dose of insulin. The Mobi is compatible with both the Dexcom G6 and G7.
t:slim X2™:
Tandem’s t:slim X2 insulin pump can be used as a traditional insulin pump. When paired with the Dexcom G6 CGM. The t:slim pump can deliver a basal rate as low as .001 unit increments. A bolus can be delivered through a touch screen interface, which is as easy as sending a text. All of your data is easily accessed, and can be shared with up to five followers. The t:slim is the smallest, most durable pump available. It has a shatterproof glass touch screen and the insulin cartridge holds up to 300 units. The pump is watertight up to 3 feet for 30 minutes, and is rechargeable via micro USB. You can download the pump and CGM data to your computer with a USB cord. You can also upload your insulin pump data through the Tandem app. You can now even bolus from your phone!
Tandem has two automated insulin delivery systems: Control IQ™ and Basal IQ™
Control IQ:
- Tandem X2 Pump and Dexcom G7 or G6 CGM
- Made for patients ages 6 or older, who use more than 10 units of insulin a day, and who weigh over 55 pounds (25 kilos)
- Holds 300 units of insulin
- The system adjusts or suspends basal insulin to keep glucose in the target range
- It will deliver a bolus one an hour when hyperglycemia is predicted
- Approved to bolus from your phone
Responsible Use of Control IQ Technology
Systems like the Mobi and t:slim X2 insulin pump with Control IQ technology are not substitutes for active diabetes management, as they are common scenarios and cannot prevent hypoglycemia. Control IQ relies on continuous CGM reading and will not be able to predict glucose levels or suspend insulin delivery if your CGM is not working properly or is unable to communicate with your pump. Be sure to always use your pump, cartridges, CGM, and infusion sets as instructed and check them regularly to make sure they are working properly. Always pay attention to your symptoms, actively monitor your glucose levels, and treat according to your healthcare provider’s recommendations.
